Urban Update

Providence, RI

Completed on a short five month schedule, this historic East Side home was given a complete makeover aimed at maintaining its historical integrity while creating a modern and functional interior. Architectural details were preserved wherever possible and, when they could not be saved, as with the doors and mouldings, they were recreated to match the original.

On the first floor the kitchen was updated and now includes a farmer’s sink, new range and hood, and large island with a second sink and built-in storage; painted millwork shelving and cabinets round out the space. Hardwood floors run throughout the first floor, complimenting the walls painted in various blue hues and neutrals; frequent windows bring in abundant natural light. This entire level as well as all bathrooms were outfitted with radiant heat; Icynene spray foam insulation was applied to the uninsulated exterior walls for improved efficiency.

Outside, the grounds which had previously offered very little utility were improved to include a blue stone terrace, deck, and children’s play area.
