Modern Sensibility

Providence, RI

The interior of this 175 year old East Side colonial was given an airy modern makeover by Parker Construction and Arris Design in concert with an historical renovation to the home’s exterior. Unique spaces prevail in this home, creating functionality throughout.

The first floor, formerly full of small and narrow spaces, was opened up, giving it a modern sensibility. Light woods couple with large open doorways which connect the living spaces and allow natural light to flow throughout the level.

Custom millwork decorates many of the first floor spaces from the floor to ceiling kitchen cabinetry, designed to maximize the historic home’s footprint, to the built-in seating in the TV room, to the beautiful bar area. Additionally, an elevator was retrofit into the home’s historic structure, no small feat given the home’s age and floorplan.

Upstairs, the third floor had been completely dilapidated but Parker Construction converted this previously unusable space into a home office and studio. Additionally, a large stainless steel Japanese soaking tub completed a unique bathroom which also features a creatively designed floating glass countertop and ceiling tub filler. Additionally, a new rain shower and tub were installed in the master bath.
